Gov’t urged to implement Early Childhood development

The Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) has called on the government to implement the policy on early childhood development particularly in the rural communities to ensure that children in those communities were given quality early childhood care and development.
According to the CCFC, education was one of the key solutions to eradicating poverty and improving lives.
Madam Gifty Akosua Baka, the Country Director of the CCFC made the call at the commissioning of the Early Childhood Care and Development Centre (ECD) at Dakpam in the Nanumba North district of the Northern region.
The project which was jointly funded by ChildFund Korea comprises a playing ground, furniture, school toilet and a rainwater harvesting tank and accessories valued at GHc102,314 Ghana Cedis.
Madam Baka said CCFC has adopted an integrated development approach in intervening in education, water and sanitation, health and nutrition, sustainable livelihood development and institutional capacity building.
She said ChildFund Korea, CCFC Ghana Country Office and partner AGREDS are supporting government and the Ghana National Campaign Coalition to promote the rights of the very young and most vulnerable to have access to health, well-being, quality care and education as well as raise the awareness about the importance of the early years to a child’s growth and achievement in later life.
The Country Director mentioned lack of trained teachers, poor infrastructure, poorly developed teaching and learning materials and issues relating to the implementation of language policy amongst others as some of the challenges which bedevilled the Early Childhood Education Centres in the country.
