DEPUTY NR-MINISTER DECRIES YOUTH INDISCIPLINE
Mr. San Nasaamu Asabigi, Deputy northern regional Minister says the astronomical rise in youth indiscipline in most Ghanaian societies should be a source of worry to all well-meaning citizens. He noted that alcoholism, drug abuse and internet scam that are characteristic of a cross section of the youth had gained notoriety in most communities and called for a collective approach to tackle the situation. “It is sad to note that the rate at which our present youth are getting themselves in a lot of social vices including drug abuse, alcoholism and internet scam is worrying and it is for this reason I want to use this opportunity to advice you to desist from irresponsible lifestyles.” Mr. Nasaamu Asabigi was addressing participants at the national youth policy dissemination platform in Tamale under the theme, “Towards an empowered youth: impacting positively on national development.” He commended successive governments for their relentless efforts toward youth empowerment and observed that the current NDC administration’s commitment to provide adequate resources for sustainable youth development will be an exercise in futility if some Ghanaian youth do not change their negative lifestyles. The Deputy northern regional Minister also challenged the youth to brace themselves up with the requisite technological expertise to enhance their competitiveness in modern development trends. On the 2012 general elections, Mr. Nasaamu Asabigi pleaded with Journalists most of whom are within the youth brackets to protect the nation’s democratic credentials by avoiding what he referred to as “Irresponsible journalism” during that period. Mr. Archibald Donkoh, a Deputy National Coordinator in charge of Finance and Administration at the National Youth Authority headquarters in Accra said the authority was vigorously pursuing well tailored programmes to make youth unemployment a thing of the past in the country. He revealed that as part of programmes and key activities drawn up by the National Youth Authority to achieve its mandate, youth training institutes nationwide have been supplied with 20 computers each to refurbish their computer laboratories. Mr. Archibald Donkoh thanked government for the promulgation of the National Youth Policy as well as the approval of funds for its implementation. Northern regional Coordinator of the National Youth Authority, Mr. Shaibu Ziblim took the participants through a power point presentation on the youth policy draft and cautioned them against attempts to get quick monies through dubious means.

NINE GIRLS RESCUED IN GUSHEGU FROM NIGERIA



Human trafficking has become the modern form of slavery across West African countries which gaining ways and has turn as a menace to the society. To combat this menace World Vision in collaboration with the Anti-Human trafficking unit of the Ghana Police Service has rescued nine girls in the Gushegu district who were trafficked to Nigeria for commercial sex activities. This came to the light when World Vision organized a durbar on child trafficking at Gushegu in the Gushegu district of the Northern region. In an address by the Director for Advocacy and Marketing, Rev. Mrs. Agnes Phillips of World Vision, said the organization since its inception in 1995, has its aim of bettering the life of the Ghana child in the society. According to her, the organization has been collaborating with the Anti-Human trafficking unit of the Ghana Police service to combat and reduce child trafficking in the country. Rev. Agnes however advised parents to enroll their wards in school to reduce the poverty and illiteracy rate in the area. She stated that it is due to illiteracy that makes traffickers to lure girls to achieve their parochial interest. She said those innocent girls go through all the ordeal treatment and abuse. The Head of Anti-Human trafficking, Superintendent Patience Quaye said the victims were rescued upon a surveillance conducted by the unit in Nigeria and other neighboring countries where the naive girls were fortunate to come to their way upon a tip off. She disclosed that with the exception of arms and drugs, the third most lucrative business now is child trafficking which is gaining stands in the Ghanaian society. Superintendent Patience Quaye however called for collaborative efforts to combat child trafficking. She warned parents and the general public to be wary of offenders and report cases to the police. The regent of Gushegu, Abu Bawa Yakubu in his speech said human trafficking is against humanity and perpetrators should face the rigors of the law. She pledged his support in combating human trafficking in the area. The victims in her testimony confirmed the abuse they have gone through in the hands of their superior ranking from sexual abuse, illegal abortions and brutalities.

AHTU says human trafficking is the third most booming business



The Head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Ghana police service, Superintendent Patience Quaye disclosed that with the exception of arms and drugs dealing the third most booming business is human trafficking in the world. She said human trafficking is criminal to humanity and perpetrators are bound to face legal charges and sentence to prison. Superintendent Patience disclosed this at a durbar in Zoggo in the Savelugu-Naton of the Northern region when her outfit recued three girls from the district in Nigeria upon a tip off. Patience Quaye said most drug barons are no more getting their way in their business hence shifting their attention to human trafficking which has gain wings in the society. She stated that no one is preventing people to migrate but the main issue should be safe migration. According to her, human trafficking has no respect for anybody in the society saying that it is an offence that affects human dignity. She therefore called for collaboration between traditional authorities, Non Governmental Organization and civil societies to combat child trafficking in the country. Superintendent Patience bemoaned the situation adding that child trafficking is prevalent in the less endured regions of the country. The Director for Advocacy and Marketing of World Vision, Rev. Mrs. Agnes Phillips an address said the organization is interested in the wellbeing of children because they contribute majority of the Ghanaian population and are vulnerable. She explained that the organization has been collaborating with the Anti-Human trafficking unit of the Ghana Police service to combat and reduce child trafficking in the country. Rev. Agnes however advised parents to enroll their wards in school to reduce the poverty and illiteracy rate in the area. The Northern regional head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, DSP, Stephen Tetteh commended the chief and people of Zoggo traditional area for the absolute peace they have maintain in the area. He however said child trafficking becomes reality when parents shed way from their responsibilities calling on parents to live up to expectation to make their children better future leaders of the nation. He pledged the support of the police in combating criminal cases in the region and the country at large to ensure the pride of Ghana being the haven of peace in West Africa.

27 GIRLS RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP PACKAGES
The Nanumba North District Directorate of Ghana education service in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP) has organized a scholarship award ceremony for 27 girls in Bibimbila to award brilliant but needy students in the district. Presenting the awards, the District Coordinator of the Girl-Child Education of WFP,Abukari Ramatu disclosed that the 27 award winners this year is an improvement over the previous awards in the 2008/2009 academic year when only 10 girls benifited. She said the scholarship package seeks to alleviate poverty and improve girl-child education in the district. Each of the award winners took away home Six hundred Ghana cedis and exercise books. The beneficiary schools include twenty-two girls from the E.P demonstration, four from the Our Lady of Peace and one from Pusuga Junior high School. The District Chief Executive for Nanumba North, Mohammed Ibn Abass, in a speech read on his behalf, expressed gratitude to World Food Programme for understanding the plight of the less privileged in the society by coming in to sponsor the 27 girls in their various schools. He called on civil society organization to emulate the kind gesture showed by the organization. The DCE stressed the importance of girl-child education and urged parents to enroll their children in school since education is the key to the reduction of poverty, hunger and ignorance in the society.

AMBARIYA ORGANIZE WORKSHOP FOR INSTRUCTORS



The Ambariyya Muslim Mission in collaboration with Al-HudaiBiyya Center for Humanitarian Services has organized a four-day workshop for Islamic instructors in some selected districts in the Northern region. The workshop is aimed at equipping the instructors with modern methodologies in instructing Arabic students to uplift Islamic education in the country. This came as a research conducted by Al-HudaiBiyya Center for Humanitarian Services on the falling standards of Islamic education in Ghana saw the need to empower the instructors with the teaching methodology for quality Arabic teaching and learning in the country. Coordinators of the workshop were drawn from Saudi Arabia to impart the knowledge in the instructors. The Chief Executive of Al-HudaiBiyya Center for Humanitarian Services, Dr. Mohammed Amin, commended the participants and coordinators for their cooperation through out the workshop and hope they will used what they learn to teach the future leaders of the country. He mentioned that the organization has chalked a lot of successes in the area of the education, health and humanitarian services. Dr. Mohammed disclosed that through the efforts of the Association University of Ghana is to run a master’s programme in Arabic studies this academic year. A representative of the coordinators of the Workshop, Sulemana Bin Abdallah Al-Rudayyan expressed his profound gratitude to participants and organizers of the workshop for the dynamism Islam has gain in Ghana and northern region in particular. Malam Yussif Yakubu Abdallah on behalf of the participant expressed their appreciation to Al-HudaiBiyya Center for Humanitarian Services for organizing the workshop and promised they will impart the knowledge on the rightful children who are willing to see the kingdom of Allah. Mallam Yussif said the workshop has transformed them from the primitive way of teaching to the modern technological system of teaching Arabic in their various schools. The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central Lawyer Inusah Fuseini who was the chair of the occasion, recommended that such workshops should be extended to cut across the country to prepare the future leaders to be good Islamic scholars for the Muslim fraternity and spread the holly news of the holly prophet Mohammed. He therefore donated 500 bags and 2 bails of used clothing to be distributed to the vulnerable in the Ambariyya School.

GNAAS EMBARK ON TREE PLANTING AT CHEYOLI



As part of effort by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to combat climate change and Global warming, the Ghana National Association of Adventists Student (GNAAS) has embarked on a tree planting exercise in Cheyoli in the Tolon-Kunbungu district of the Northern region. The association planted one thousand Accasier and hundred Mango seedlings worth several thousands of Ghana cedis. The president of the Association, Sylvanus Worlanyo Dompey said the initiative is part of the programmme of the year long 30th anniversary celebration of the association. He added that as youth they see the need to contribute their quota in reducing climate change and global warming in the world. Mr. Dompey emphasized the need for tree planting in the country to help present the looming desert which is approaching Ghana and in the north in particular. According to him, the association has chalked a lot of successes in their quest to ensure good health, education and assisting the less privileged in the society. He announced that the climax of the year long anniversary celebration of the association will take place in Cape Coast 7th august 30th in the central region. The President of northern Ghana Mission of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), Pastor Alfred Agyei-Baah, in a brief sermon, advised the youth to live exemplary lives as children of God for others to emulate. He stated that the humble beginning of everything great laurels to earmark for its inventor. He encouraged the youth to embark on more initiatives of this kind for their reward is in heaven. According to the president of the Northern Ghana Mission SDA, technology has exposed the society to environmental dangers and called for a collaborative effort to combat this menace. The Chief of Cheyoli, N’Yab CheyoliNaa Al-hassan Nyindoo commended the association for their effort and for choosing his community to plant those seedlings. He said the community is the fortunate among the computing communities in the region. The Chief therefore pledged his outermost support to the project.
