DEPUTY NR-MINISTER DECRIES YOUTH INDISCIPLINE
Mr. San Nasaamu Asabigi, Deputy northern regional Minister says the astronomical rise in youth indiscipline in most Ghanaian societies should be a source of worry to all well-meaning citizens. He noted that alcoholism, drug abuse and internet scam that are characteristic of a cross section of the youth had gained notoriety in most communities and called for a collective approach to tackle the situation. “It is sad to note that the rate at which our present youth are getting themselves in a lot of social vices including drug abuse, alcoholism and internet scam is worrying and it is for this reason I want to use this opportunity to advice you to desist from irresponsible lifestyles.” Mr. Nasaamu Asabigi was addressing participants at the national youth policy dissemination platform in Tamale under the theme, “Towards an empowered youth: impacting positively on national development.” He commended successive governments for their relentless efforts toward youth empowerment and observed that the current NDC administration’s commitment to provide adequate resources for sustainable youth development will be an exercise in futility if some Ghanaian youth do not change their negative lifestyles. The Deputy northern regional Minister also challenged the youth to brace themselves up with the requisite technological expertise to enhance their competitiveness in modern development trends. On the 2012 general elections, Mr. Nasaamu Asabigi pleaded with Journalists most of whom are within the youth brackets to protect the nation’s democratic credentials by avoiding what he referred to as “Irresponsible journalism” during that period. Mr. Archibald Donkoh, a Deputy National Coordinator in charge of Finance and Administration at the National Youth Authority headquarters in Accra said the authority was vigorously pursuing well tailored programmes to make youth unemployment a thing of the past in the country. He revealed that as part of programmes and key activities drawn up by the National Youth Authority to achieve its mandate, youth training institutes nationwide have been supplied with 20 computers each to refurbish their computer laboratories. Mr. Archibald Donkoh thanked government for the promulgation of the National Youth Policy as well as the approval of funds for its implementation. Northern regional Coordinator of the National Youth Authority, Mr. Shaibu Ziblim took the participants through a power point presentation on the youth policy draft and cautioned them against attempts to get quick monies through dubious means.
