Melcom donates expired products to Nyohini Ophanage

The Caretaker of Nyohini Children’s Home, Madam Augustina Quinoo has raised serious concern about the way and manner some organizations and other individual philanthropists donate inferior and expired items to the Children at the Home.
According to her, in as much as they rely mainly on their benevolence to survive, there is still the need for all donors who support the orphanage to observe due diligence to ascertain the validity or otherwise of any product or item they intend to buy for the Home.
Speaking in an interview with Fiila News Madam Quainoo bemoaned that on several occasions, the supervisors at the Nyohini Children’s Home have detected that goods supplied or donated to the children by some organizations and individuals have either expired or nearing their expiry dates.
Meanwhile, Melcom-Ghana, one of the leading shops in Ghana today donated some items to the Nyohini Children’s Home, which were suspected to be nearing their expiry dates.
The products include 50 cartons of Derby and Coffee Cola beverages. A critical check by Fiila News team revealed that the products were almost becoming unwholesome for human consumption.
Instead of disposing the items, the Management of Melcom Tamale decided to donate them to the imates at the Nyohini Children’s Home.
The Northern Regional Director of the Food and Drugs Board Authority (FDA), Mr. Sylvester Kyei tells Fiila News once the product is not expired completely, it can be consumed.
However, in a situation where the expiry date even elapses for a single day it becomes unwholesome.
Meanwhile, when Fiila News contacted management of Melcom-Ghana on the issue they declined comment.
