Tamale Metro Assembly boycotts social accountability forum

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has boycotted a social public expenditure and financial accountability forum organized by the Northern Development Society in collaboration with the Local Government geared towards promoting social accountability in grassroots level.
The objective of the local government is to improve allocation of public resources, service provision and promote local economic development.
The forum was under the theme ‘Stimulating Demand for Accountable Local government and Service Delivery.
The forum was attended by some stakeholders including the media in Tamale.
With this laudable project, the Metropolitan Assembly which was dully invited failed to attend the forum for what participant described as a deliberate attempt.
 The social public expenditure and financial accountability (SPEFA) process is the third component of the local government capacity support project.
In regards to this, a consultancy service has been awarded to SNV–Ghana to lead a group of civil society organizations for the implementation of the project.
Briefing the participants Tia Abdulai Kabiru Mahama, Assistant Project coordinator of the Northern Development Society noted that, the purpose of the forum is to create a platform for the citizenry to participate in social development and decision making process with MMDAs in the Assemblies and also to improve the knowledge of stakeholders in their quest to demanding accountability from duty bearers.
