AUCTION OF CARS SUSPENDED AMIDST NDC YOUTH PROTEST

AUCTION OF CARS SUSPENDED AMIDST NDC YOUTH PROTEST

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has indefinitely suspended the auctioning of cars.
The decision taken by the Metropolitan Security Committee, METSEC, is to allow the assembly to address issues raised by various interest groups who have questioned the credibility of the exercise.
An NDC Youth Group called the Gbewaa Youth Group has on two occasions resisted the auctioning process claiming that the process was not transparent.
The public sale was marred after the irate youth seized two of the seven cars that were scheduled for auctioning.
Speaking to the media, the Public Relations Officer of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, Musah Issah said the decision to halt the exercise is to ensure peace and tranquility in the metropolis.
He however said the assembly is not calling off the exercise, but will restart the process at a later date.
He disclosed that all the cars that were towed away are to be returned.
Mr. Musah Issah said the security committee has ordered the auctioneer to discontinue the process and withdraw all vehicles that have been given out whilst a date is yet to be fixed for the auctioning to resume.
