-->
Four lives were lost when a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus travelling from Kpandai to Tamale over the weekend run over a corolla saloon car travelling from Tamale to Yendi on the Tamale-Yendi road.  The accident occurred at Sang in the Mion district of the northern region.
Narrating the incident to Fiila News, the Northern Regional Manager of Metro Mass Transit Limited Mr. Malik Ibrahim noted that there was a heap of sand on the side of the saloon car while the Metro Mass driver was also swerving a port hole which incidentally collided with the corolla saloon car killing all four occupants instantly in the saloon car.
According to him, the former assembly man for sang electoral area was part of the four people in the saloon car.
The bodies he said have since been deposited at the Yendi Government hospital morgue. It could be recalled that in November 2011, 26 persons including the Upper Regional Correspondent of The Enquirer newspaper, Mr. Samuel Abaane were reported dead in a horrific accident on the Tamale-Bolgatanga highway.
However, in February last year, another Metro Mass Transit bus with registration number AS 2458X from Tamale to Yendi run into an “authorized” speed ramp at Kparikori causing various degrees of injury to seven passengers.
In November the same year, 29 passengers lost their lives on the spot while two died later at the Tamale Teaching Hospital when Metro Mass Transit bus collided with a Benz bus at Kogni on the Tamale - Bolgatanga highway.
With the horrific number of accidents recorded by the Metro Mass Transit buses over the years in the region, people are beginning to raise questions on the caliber of drivers the organization has engaged.
The Northern Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission, Mr. Alexandra Ayatah attributed the cause of the accident to the reckless driving of the drivers of MMT in the northern region.
The Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission however attributed the cause of the recent accident to the driver of the Metro Mass bus saying that it was due to over speeding and reckless swerving of pot holes.
Aggrieved Ayatah however wondered the caliber of drivers the company is engaging which is resulting to the mass slaughter of innocent souls rendering several women widows and children orphans.
He however charged management of the company to scrutinize their drivers properly to avoid future occurrences.
The Mortal remains of the four people who were killed by the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus have been laid to rest at the Gbolokpalsi cemetery in the Sagnarigu district of the northern region.
Mr. Wisdom Keini, Yakubu Razak and the other two were buried according Christians and Islamic customs respectively.
