
With a total of 37 members in the Assembly,
Seidu Abukari secured 29 votes against 6 representing 82 percent of the total
votes cast.
Ahead
of the confirmation, Northern Regional Minister, Bede Zeden pleaded with the
assembly members to give the nominee one touch victory which he said would be a
replica of what happened in Damongo but the people rather gave him what he was
not disappointed about.
Before
proceeding begun, Mr. Mohammed Abudu was sworn into the house after the demise
a member of the house earlier this year.
Meanwhile,
Mr. Abu Karim was elected as the presiding member of the house who also pole 27
as against 8 votes representing 72 percents of total votes cast in the
assembly.
Delighted
Seidu Abukari in his acceptance speech promised to operate an open door policy
and called for the support of everybody.
He
also called for c collaboration between the assembly and other development
partners to fast track the area’s development agenda.
He
expressed his commitment in if not reducing poverty in the area to the barest
minimum.
He
also pledged to tackle the issue of rural urban migration in the area. This he
said would be done by collaborating with development partners to institutes
vocational and apprenticeship development skills for youth in the district.
The
deputy Northern regional Director of Electoral commission, Godwin Okley
supervises the election.
