Parents urged to take active interest in their wards education

-->
 Parents have been urged to take active interest in their children's education to enable them to acquire knowledge and skills needed for national development.
They have also been tasked to provide their children with basic educational needs like school uniforms, sandals and books to enhance their learning.
Deputy Director of Education in charge of Early Childhood Education at the Tamale Metropolis, Madam Zaratu Abrahaman said this at the 10th anniversary celebration of Dolores Basic School in the Tamale Metropolis.
 She reminded parents that the best legacy they could bequeath to their children is sound education.
Madam Zaratu emphasized the need for formidable human resource base to move the nation's development agenda forward and said the government is spending a greater percentage of its resources on educational infrastructure.
She noted that education played vital role in the socio-economic development of every nation and no-one could succeed in life without education.
Established in 2003, the school currently has a total enrolment of 360, ten classrooms and runs a basic school from Nursery to primary 6.
The Director of the school, Ibrahim Atchulo, in his annual report recounted the school challenges as, punctuality to school, refusal of parents to attend PTA meetings and Parent-Teacher interviews among others are the issues the school is battling with. He therefore appealed to parents to ensure that there is discipline in the school to ensure the entire development of the school.
Mr. Atchulo therefore warned parents of nonperforming pupils to sit up and provide them the necessary materials or face withdrawals or demotions.
The 10th anniversary ceremony which coincided with the graduation of 23 pupils from primary 6 to Junior High School was also characterized with presentation of awards to deserving pupils and staff.
